The Start of Day 2
Act #9 Quill Saturday, August 16, 1969... 1:20 P.M.
My Take:
Note: It rained all Night and the place was a Mudbath... amazingly, it started to clear up just as they started.
The Crowd's reaction to Quill's performance at Woodstock was mixed. Quill opened with the initial Song, a down-tempo version of "They Live the Life"... it did not manage to energize the crowd, despite efforts to engage them with extended Jams and chanting.
However, the Band managed to get the Crowd more involved with their 2nd Song, "That’s How I Eat," which was more upbeat and showcased the band's musical talents. Despite these efforts, the momentum was interrupted by an announcement from peace activist Wavy Gravy, which temporarily halted the set.
Quill attempted to regain Audience engagement by distributing Percussion Instruments during their final Song, "Waiting for You," but overall, the response was lukewarm, and the Band left the stage feeling somewhat frustrated.
I felt the Crowd seemed very confused and obviously very wet... their Crowd Noise Factor was 3-ish to 6.
Quill Musical Bio
Quill was a Boston-based Rock Band formed in 1967 by Brothers Jon and Dan Cole. Known for their Eclectic instrumentation and multi-genre Compositions, they gained regional popularity and performed at Woodstock. Despite their innovative Performances, which included Members switching Instruments on Stage, their Careers were short-lived. After Woodstock, they released an Album through Atlantic's Cotillion label, which did not achieve significant commercial success. The Band eventually disbanded, with Members pursuing various other projects.
