Sha Na Na Woodstock Setlist Live

Sha Na Na is an American rock and roll and doo-wop revival group that originated in 1969, initially formed by students from Columbia University. The group, which took its name from the song "Get a Job" by the Silhouettes, gained fame for its lively performances that combined nostalgic 1950s music with energetic choreography. They first captured national attention with their memorable set at the Woodstock Festival, where they performed just before Jimi Hendrix, and their rendition of "At the Hop" became a highlight, earning them a standing ovation.

I did not like their Cover of "Teen Angel"...

Following Woodstock, Sha Na Na hosted a successful variety show from 1977 to 1981, further solidifying their place in pop culture. The original lineup included members such as Donny York, Jocko Marcellino, and Rob Leonard, and while many original members have since departed, the group continues to perform today, celebrating over five decades of music and nostalgia.

My Take:

Sha Na Na's performance was one of the festival's most unexpected highlights. The group, originally formed by Columbia University students, brought a unique blend of nostalgia and energetic rock 'n' roll to the stage. They included hits like "At the Hop" and "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" to a crowd, although mucho missing. Despite their seemingly out-of-place presence at a festival known for its countercultural ethos, Sha Na Na's performance resonated with attendees, earning them standing ovations. Their set was notable not only for its musicality but also for its theatrical flair, as the band members donned greaser attire and engaged the audience with humor and charm. Although they were paid a mere $350 for their appearance... an amount that ultimately bounced... they left a lasting impression that helped propel their career forward, leading to appearances in films and television.

Note: Their rendition of "Blue Moon" released in 1971 is one of my Personal Favs!
